In March this year, donors came together to fund our 47th tube well, installed in the village of Char Kalmi in southern Bangladesh. Before the well, women and children walked over an hour each way to collect water that was often unsafe to drink.
The well now serves more than 200 people. Cases of waterborne illness in the village have already fallen noticeably, according to the local health worker, and school attendance among girls has improved because they no longer spend their mornings fetching water.
The well was sponsored in memory of a donor's mother, and a small plaque bearing her name stands beside the pump. If you would like to sponsor a well โ as a family, in memory of a loved one, or with friends โ a complete installation costs ยฃ350.
Thank you to everyone who gave. This is what your generosity looks like on the ground.
